Trip Around N. Kyushu – Day Three

September 10, 2010

The next day we started by poking around the streets of Yufuin.  Yufuin is a cute little town filled with kitschy little shops and art galleries.  It’s a great place to wander around and be a tourist.  This is what we saw when we were walking towards the main drag.

This is the street a little before all the shops opened up.  Pretty much wherever you go in the town there is a good view of Yufudake in the background.

After shopping a bit, we headed out towards the Bridge of Dreams, the longest (tallest?) pedestrian-only suspension bridge in Japan.   Here is a picture of some of the mountains nearby (pretty sure they’re part of the Aso-kuju range of Kumamoto).

After that, we found the bridge.

From the bridge you can see not only one,

but TWO waterfalls…

A nice old lady pretty much forced me into buying two crushed ices from her, and they were certainly not the best I’ve ever had, but we had a good chat and it was fun to have some interaction with the locals.  After the bridge, we drove into Fukuoka City and spent the evening by eating ramen noodles in an outdoor food stall by the river and poking around the mall for a bit.  I had some more Starbucks, too!

On day four, we head back down to Nagasaki to complete some adventures we didn’t get to do on our last time through that area.  Get ready for some rodents of unusual size.
